Ex Corner Shop.
Followers of this blog will know I have an eye for spotting buildings that had a different use to the one they have now. Some are more obvious than others. This building was clearly a corner shop in a prior life.
Sadly, it is a sign of the times. Many streets had a shop on the corner serving their local community. Unfortunately, the march of the supermarkets – plus a change in lifestyle – has led to the demise of these local facilities.
This one was on the corner of Blenheim Road and Berkeley Road in Newbury. A tightly packed housing area with narrow roads. A quick bit of research suggests that the shop has closed fairly recently, and was called Jacquis Convenience Store. The conversion from the original house to a shop and back again is fairly obvious.
