James Baker and Sons, Wolverhampton.
Another magnificent Grade II Listed building in Wolverhampton. This time, it’s The Boot Factory. This wording appears proudly over the arched entrance to a courtyard on the front of the building. It’s a shame that the rather excellent Ghost Sign is not only partially obscured by the tree, it has also bee partly destroyed by the more recent and out of keeping windows. Still, the legend James Baker and Sons Boot Manufacturers can still be clearly worked out.
This extremely substantial building, dating back to around 1898 and apparently last used for boot making around 1950. To the left is the remains of the Royal Hospital featured a while ago. To see an aerial view of the building in its heyday, click here.
