The Old Springfield Brewery, Wolverhampton.
I have featured this before, but as seen from the canal and at the other end of this massive site. Built for William Butler, it subsequently passed into the hands of Mitchels and Butler. In later years it became merely a distribution centre, an activity that still seems to operate from an adjacent site. Sadly, much was destroyed by fire in 2004, although a substantial amount of the Grade II Listed Springfield Brewery still remains.
Outline planning application was applied for in 2001 for a “Boutique Shopping Centre”, but was turned down as it was felt it would have an adverse effect on the city’s main shopping area. Various other things were contemplated, but the fire did not help. It would now appear that the University is developing the site.
