Red Kite.
The area around the eastern end of the Kennet & Avon Canal is popular Red Kite territory. It is not uncommon to see several circling overhead. Trying to capture a decent photograph, of course, is a very different matter!
In the field in Padworth (adjacent to Aldermaston), there was the distinctive sound indicating their presence. Sure enough, moments later the pair could been seen in the distance.
This gave me chance to get the big lens on. It was then just a case of waiting until one of them came close enough.
Unfortunately, neither of them came particularly close. However, with a powerful lens and enough megapixels, I was able to crop the image.
