Sherborne Wharf.
Another historic part of the extensive canal network in central Birmingham. At one time, this was the “Main Line” on the BCN (Birmingham Canal Navigations). It was by-passed by the “New Main Line” – a much straighter and wider canal. Many of the resulting “loops” remained to serve the industries the wandering path of the original line was built to serve. Today, the evidence of the industrial heritage around Sherborne Wharf has all but gone.
This loop now serves as a base for commercial boat trips, as well as a marina for boats. It is still used by boaters for cruising. Some out of idle curiosity to see where it leads, others to tick off another under-cruised part of the BCN in their quest to cruise it all.
