Newbury Post Office.
Love them or loathe them, these buildings are a dying breed. Newbury Post Office, we learn, is set to close mid April 2017, and the counters move into WH Smith.
Whether or not this is progress is probably down to the individual. We will no doubt have to continue to queue forever to get served, the “self-service” stations that always require help from the staff will remain slower than the normal counter.
But, many of these original buildings are part of the street scene. Inevitably stylish and often, as is the case with Newbury Post Office, listed. Built in 1896, it was listed Grade II on 11 Sep 2008.
It is conveniently located between on Cheap Street between Market Place and the Station. It is also opposite one of the entrances to the Kennet Shopping Centre.
