The Barlow Theatre, Langley.
Langley is a small village that is part of the Oldbury conurbation. Not somewhere you expect to find something like this, especially tucked around the back of the main shopping street. Oldbury Repertory Players go back to 1939, holding their first production in Oldbury Technical College. As the company expanded, they looked for somewhere of their own and, in 1956 The Barlow Theatre opened as the Barlow Playhouse.it is named after its then president, who gave an interest free loan. This enabled the company to purchase the Methodist Chapel and School in Spring Street, Langley. The chapel was converted and subsequently expanded, although a fire in 1972 destroyed part of the building. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1973. Seating 173, it is a thriving local theatre in the best of traditions. It also shows films twice a month in the Spring and Autumn.
