White Hart, East Ilsley.
A change of location, but a return to an old theme. I drive past the former White Hart, East Ilsley, on the way back from my school run. I brought my camera with me, parked the bus up, and took the photograph.
The building’s design is a big give-away, as it its name – complete with the old pub sign in the carriageway! Of interest also is the building to the left. This is called the Wheatsheaf. Research shows that there was also a pub of this name in the village. A list of publicans from 1887 – 1907 is available on the Pub History website.
However, the building doesn’t look like it dates back that far, so this may be a coincidence. It would be interesting to find out. A little bit further up the road is another former pub, which I may feature tomorrow.
